Writing about communication

The challenge of communicating with others is that we all have our own expectations. And we act like they’re the same.

I recently wrote three different episodes for my podcast about communication to outline what is most often happening when we think communication has failed.

That is one way to communicate with others about what is happening. Essentially, it is the “respond to the need” kind.

Another is to “demonstrate a positive example of good communication.” Show-don’t-tell.

And many of us are finely tuned to notice when we are always talking about “problems” and never “solutions.”

There are still other ways to approach the subject. We can talk about the importance of storytelling, hooking the reader, and making our “content” unforgettable.

Knowing all the different hazards about how we communicate, it should be all the more obvious that we all walk into the subject with different and intense expectations for one another.

And knowing that is essential to good communication.
