Learning to Pray

Prayer

God of Hope, be with me, with us today. Inspire us, encourage us, stir us up that we might know you better. That we might love you better. That we might see you, among these friends, today. Amen.

Introduction

The format is simple. Some teaching, some talking, some summarizing, some homework.

Discussion

  • When you pray, what do you offer?
  • How does the Lord’s Prayer influence your relationship with prayer and with God?

Further Study

  • The Book of Common Prayer lists several prayer forms (p. 856-7). Look them up. Identify which ones you’re most comfortable with. Try doing the others instead.
  • Try expanding the Lord’s Prayer beyond its few lines. Make each line something about you, your neighbor, and your community personally. Then pray this week this personal devotion you’ve composed.
  • Read a book about the Lord’s Prayer. Or maybe take on your regular devotionals with a “Lord’s Prayer lens”.
