Matthew 1:18-25
-
In the person of Joseph, God trusts in a human to trust in the mission, to raise the Messiah, to be a beacon of hope to the world.
-
The Birth Story of Jesus is a big deal to Christians . . . except that Matthew gives us a story in passive focus, not on Jesus, but Joseph.
-
The place of Joseph in the birth story, in the angel visitation, to the promise that is to come, is an invitation extended to us all.
-
The Holy Family is our family. And God shows us that we are part of a project that thrives on making room for the new.
-
We often read the challenge Joseph faces as doing the “right” thing. What the angel invites them all into is something new.
-
It is tempting to see Joseph as righteous because he “does right by Mary”. But this version misses the story’s most powerful truth.
