Make a New Normal

Weekly bread daily

Our expectations vs. Our values

When the Three Hearts Bakery opened north of Rogers City, Michigan, we made excuses to go up there. A lot.

We also made the mistake of trying an incredible blueberry cookie that first day that they apparently never sell. So, we’re always looking for it. Asking about it. Longing to eat it again…

Since 2020, they’ve only been open on the weekends: Friday and Saturday. Which is probably a good thing for our waistlines. And bank accounts. But we don’t only get cookies (and raspberry bars and cinnamon rolls and…).

They also bake incredible breads.
Breads that don’t really keep for a week.

Which means we can’t have it every day. At least, without some creativity. But let’s be honest, stale bread on Thursday bought on the previous Friday is not the thing any of us has in mind here.

When our minds are turned toward daily bread, does eating it weekly even seem sensible? And not intentionally restrictive? Do we dare consider the expectation is far more regular, and far more normal, than we currently practice it?

Because, isn’t the underlying point that we all have to eat? Daily?

A butt and a half after a day and a half.
