welcome

  • As we read about Jesus teaching about welcome, we might think it starts here, with this, and not from our being unwelcome.

  • The concept of welcome is generous and novel today. It used to be normal. That difference is important for us to recognize.

  • In the space between last week and this week, we might lose contact with the context. Apostleship and division.

  • We like to be welcomed. But welcoming others takes effort. And between these two truths is what Jesus really wants.

  • People can really obsess about being welcomed. Often more than the welcoming they do. But maybe it is quite simple.

  • I never know how I’m supposed to feel today. We know how we’ll feel tomorrow and then the third day. We know how we will feel. How things will be tomorrow. We feel that confusion today. There’s an anticipation to this day we call Maundy Thursday. A day in which the big story’s climax is…
