Luke 4:1-13

  • Exploring the temptation of power and the desire for control, we can see the ways we break community and our common purpose.

  • In dealing with temptations of power, we are prone to understate what part control has in our lives, the desire to do what we want.

  • In the temptation in the wilderness, we get to see the challenge of power — not for Jesus exactly, but for every one of us instead.

  • Our Temptation

    The devil tempts Jesus in the wilderness with power. The question is what power are we tempted to claim for ourselves?

  • Not Tempted

    We read something into the Temptation in the Desert. That Jesus is being tempted by the devil. I don’t think it fits.

  • Hunger

    In Jesus’s temptation in the wilderness, we get a picture of resistance bigger than willpower and faith. A resistance to becoming powerful at all.
