As Jesus prays in the midst of his disciples, he offers us a window into how the project will go without him, and with the Spirit.

In the Sunday between the Ascension and Pentecost, we continue to focus on the thing that Jesus wants us to hear: it’s about relationship.

Perhaps we avoid the Ascension, to keep Jesus present, in control. To avoid his command: that we love each other.

In Easter 7A, we get another example of Jesus praying in public. We’re invited to observe so that we learn.

As Jesus wraps up the Farewell Discourse, he prays to God in confidence — secure in knowing this is how it goes.

Jesus continues preparing the disciples for his departure. With a dire warning of his own, and their coming persecution.
