There is a profound elegance to “Shake It Off”. It understands that our mindset and focus is where the real action is.
“Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
-Taylor Swift, “Shake It Off”
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off”
Aside from being so catchy, Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” also offers a remarkable example of reorienting perspective.
That we don’t just need to stop worrying about what people say. Or that things will always be this way.
All of that is given. Stop focusing on it!
To do the work we’re called to do, we need to shake it off and move on. We’re called to make music, food, teach, or administrate. Whatever we do. But we all share in the love and bring the Good News to people. And that’s our focus.
So sometimes, it is frustrating, or we get a proverbial door slammed in our face. It always stings. But we shake the dust off. And keep going.
