Prayer

God of Hope, be with me, with us today. Inspire us, encourage us, stir us up that we might know you better. That we might love you better. That we might see you, among these friends, today. Amen.

Introduction

The format is simple. Some teaching, some talking, some summarizing, some homework.

Questions:

• Can we take the Ascension seriously without taking it literally?
• What would it look like to celebrate the Ascension with the same vigor that we apply to Easter and Good Friday?

Further Study:

• Go on an ascension hunt. Where in our liturgies and prayers do we hear about it? How common is it?
• Write a short story about the Ascension from the perspective of a disciple. Start at that moment and then imagine what happens immediately after.
• Read Scott Douglas’ book Jesus Ascended and reflect on why the Ascension may still be valuable.
