Making Room: A Simple Approach to Lent

A Simple Lent

To live a life less productive and more full of opportunity, is to live ready to change.

I’m terrible at minimalism. Simplicity. Productivity. I’m always trying lifehacks and tips to get to Inbox Zero. I’m terrified of my to-do list and used countless schemes to organize my stuff.

We put so much on ourselves, but does it make us any happier?

A Simple Lent

I’m calling it A Simple Lent. And the plan is simple: make more room. Share on X

This year, I’m giving up productivity for Lent. I’m giving up efficiency. I’m giving up the pursuit of perfect. And what I’m hoping to get is …

room

space

I’m looking for time. I’m looking for opportunity. I’m looking for stillness. I’m looking for the one place that GOD’s still small voice speaks: in silence. I’m looking for that.

All the clutter of my life:

  • making dinner plans
  • keeping up on the dishes
  • completing the to-do list

It piles up. It overwhelms me.

And the solutions shame me.

I walk around angry that I’m carrying so many emails in my inbox. Or that I’ve missed the latest gossip. I have a lot of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out).

This may not be your particular problem. But I think it is statistically likely that you are over-scheduled, chronically busy, and hoping for a break somewhere.

That’s why I’m taking a new approach to Lent this year. For myself and for those that want to join me. I’m calling it A Simple Lent. And the plan is simple: make more room.

  • Room in my day.
  • Room in my life.
  • Room in my soul.

For love. For faith and friendship and family. For GOD.

I’m devoting time daily for prayer and reflection  And I’m making steps to engage five parts of my life that need some more room to breathe.

I’m not offering tricks. And I’m not going to call you on the phone to make sure you get up early enough.

But I want to offer an opportunity. An opportunity that is for me as much as it is for anybody.
