Which is the real Easter: a day or a season?

In this week’s Question + Response for St. Paul’s, I explore the pressing question of what is Easter, really: that one Sunday, the season, or is it something way bigger than that?

Easter is our favorite. Many of us like Christmas, too. But Easter takes the cake.

A born Jesus is nothing compared with a re-born Jesus. That’s just awesome.

We celebrate Easter with special music and Alleluias, with our fancy clothes and pretty flowers. And we often make sure we get up for church, at least this once. We sit with Mom or Grandma, then eat brunch. Maybe go hunting for eggs.

When one uses the word “Easter,” we all think of that single day. The Sunday of white dresses and vestments.

And considering how important Easter is to the church, you’d think that Sunday would be the Easter. But when we consult The Book of Common Prayer, we get a very different, and confusing reality:
